Shooting underground

Ever since my student life, i’ve been to the Moritzbastei for some of the best concerts and club nights. The subterranean vaults of the fortress originally built in 1551–1554 provided for many, many nights with friends and fantastic music. You simply cannot get more underground than that!  At least as a location for the darker events, that is. Every three months or so it features “Schwarzes Leipzig tanzt”, an event referring to the goth/alternative scene and online community. I was also able to exhibit some of my works there last october and it was a great pleasure to to so. I’ve never been backstage, though, and shooting there took some time for preparation to create a suitable feeling for this special setting. The excitement of going backstage and meeting your dearest singer, dark and glamourous, but not stereotype rockstar, rather a fleeting impression of a shattered artistic soul, riven, multi-faceted. Bold at times, then again, timid. My friend Di worked with me on that, bringing her own story into it, and we listened to some of our favorite songs, one of which headlines this page.
