Castles, Legends & Dark Light
I had a little family getaway along the Rhine, and coming from my corner of the country, it was so refreshing to see how relaxed everyone is here. Sure, things happen, but people just keep going.
Walking along the river was such a treat, and discovering the different architecture along the way made it even better. Honestly, it felt like I was breathing again.
Also we visited Schloss Drachenburg that is situated the hills of the Siebengebirge in Königswinter. Built between 1882 and 1884 in dreamy historicist style (think: turrets, neo-gothic vibes, ornate staircases, stained glass & lavish interiors). A palace dreamed up for glam & grandeur by a baron who… well, never actually moved in.
From its terraces you glimpse the sleeping Rhine, the silhouette of the Siebengebirge, and a silent promise of myths: after all, the whole hill was once called “Dragon’s Rock,” a place of legends, dragons and fairy-tales.
Inside, the castle is like a time capsule of 19th-century romantic dreams: grand staircases, opulent rooms, stained glass painting windows, walls decorated with references to legends and history.
